UNDENIABLE FACTS

Why do beggars beg??? It seems to be a stupid question, right? But not really!!! Read on…

Yeah. In India this practice is very hard to eliminate. If for some it is a forced Institution then for others it is a boon in disguise. The latter is because we have beggars who own well furnished flats too… Amazing na..

In this post of mine I’m sharing few incidents related to beggars.

Incident 1:
Two years ago, before I owned a two wheeler my daily wait at the bus stop was atleast 10 to 20 minutes. One day as I was taking out change to provide the bus conductor with, a boy came to me in his kind of torn clothes. Started pleading, “Akkaaaa, akkaaaa, akkaaa”, in a sad tone. With too much of kindness I gave him two rupees coin. My wait for the bus continued when the same boy came back to me. This time with a different tone he said the same, “Akka, akka, akka”, by flashing an Ice-cream candy in his hand with joy.

This was such an embarrassing though funny scene, that everyone around me started laughing, including me. LOL! This was the last time I had given money to any beggar.

Incident 2 :
The traffic signals that we pass through these days, will stop us for nothing less than 2 minutes. This is the time when any beggar can make money early morning. You find beggars like women carrying kids, handicapped, and yes Eunuchs (Chakka). On my way to office today after many days, infact years, I had given money to a beggar who was a Eunuch.

Now let me compare the two incidents. The latter is a situation where the kid is rather forced or willingly prone to this habit. So please do avoid paying kids or any such beggars until you feel it is necessary.

In the second situation, though I’m against encouraging beggars, I did it because of that thought, “What else is the option left for them?”. We might talk lightly about the sections coming in help for these people, but for their livelihood what does our law do? Will any of us even let them work in our offices? Instead of showing sympathy on their situation, if any one of us could help them, in whatever ways possible when you find them around, it would be really good. I just have to say that, if you cannot respect them with a smile atleast don’t disrespect them with your stare or abusive words.

LIVE and LET LIVE!!

NOT JUST ANOTHER CUSTOM

Namaskara,

I had been thinking of what to write this time on my blog, as I was running short of ideas/topics for a week. Anyways, as the proverb says, “Where there is a will there is a way” here I proceed with my new post.

The last weekend there was a get together at my Grandma’s place to give BAGINA to my mom and my aunts. To tell you much in detail about the custom Bagina is a major part of the Gowri Habba(festival). These are prepared with packet of turmeric, a small mirror, black bangles, coconut, a comb, kumkum, black beads, blouse piece, rice and jaggery with beetle leaf and nuts in addition to the GIFT. These baginas are distributed to the married women. Married women’s parents send the items of Gowri Habba to them which is celebrated the day before Ganesha Chaturthi. This is a festival in parts of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu

The perfect practice of this custom is by offering BAGINA before the Gowri Festival, so that the married daughter of the family keeps the same for puja on the festival day in her in-laws place. But due to modernization of this tradition and majorly due to time constraints it now is offered(atleast in my family) after Ganesha Festival or during Navarathri.

Frankly speaking, for all my cousins and me it’s only a get together whereas, for my mom and aunts it’s a huge celebration with love and gifts being offered. Though my Grandma and Grandpa are no more, my mom’s brother takes up the responsibility of this, as in other families.

I just thought of adding these details on my post to make everyone realize that as these modern celebrations like birthday, Valentine’s Day and other annual celebrations the Indian Customs also bring the same joy. We just have to ensure that modernization should not risk our customs which help us bond well. It is not necessary to be religious or orthodox to follow it right?

To be mentioned this is the only time when we all maternal relatives meet and have fun.

KUDOS to this custom ;)
