UNDENIABLE FACTS

Why do beggars beg??? It seems to be a stupid question, right? But not really!!! Read on…

Yeah. In India this practice is very hard to eliminate. If for some it is a forced Institution then for others it is a boon in disguise. The latter is because we have beggars who own well furnished flats too… Amazing na..

In this post of mine I’m sharing few incidents related to beggars.

Incident 1:
Two years ago, before I owned a two wheeler my daily wait at the bus stop was atleast 10 to 20 minutes. One day as I was taking out change to provide the bus conductor with, a boy came to me in his kind of torn clothes. Started pleading, “Akkaaaa, akkaaaa, akkaaa”, in a sad tone. With too much of kindness I gave him two rupees coin. My wait for the bus continued when the same boy came back to me. This time with a different tone he said the same, “Akka, akka, akka”, by flashing an Ice-cream candy in his hand with joy.

This was such an embarrassing though funny scene, that everyone around me started laughing, including me. LOL! This was the last time I had given money to any beggar.

Incident 2 :
The traffic signals that we pass through these days, will stop us for nothing less than 2 minutes. This is the time when any beggar can make money early morning. You find beggars like women carrying kids, handicapped, and yes Eunuchs (Chakka). On my way to office today after many days, infact years, I had given money to a beggar who was a Eunuch.

Now let me compare the two incidents. The latter is a situation where the kid is rather forced or willingly prone to this habit. So please do avoid paying kids or any such beggars until you feel it is necessary.

In the second situation, though I’m against encouraging beggars, I did it because of that thought, “What else is the option left for them?”. We might talk lightly about the sections coming in help for these people, but for their livelihood what does our law do? Will any of us even let them work in our offices? Instead of showing sympathy on their situation, if any one of us could help them, in whatever ways possible when you find them around, it would be really good. I just have to say that, if you cannot respect them with a smile atleast don’t disrespect them with your stare or abusive words.

LIVE and LET LIVE!!

  1. I stopped encouraging all forms begging long back. I don't have stories to quote, but my strong feel is that god has given everyone some kind of strength to make a living on their own. Just that some are so lazy and addicted to easy money, they never come out of it. I simply don't want to promote them by contributing on roads.

I have better ways to do things. Often, visit parikrama or some govt school in my vicinity and try to help there.

Coming to the second part, i have no good gesture for them. At least for the way they act, they have no respect from me. When there are so many of them, why can't they create an association of their own and start working on some handicrafts or knitting etc to make living? I had aired this idea sometime back on radio and some govt office was more than happy to hear that idea to fund them and make them self reliant. But all these people are so addicted to easy money, no one wants to work hard and earn their living.

Shame. I repeat, they have better living only when they start retrospecting at their own lives.

  3. @Mohan: Why do they hav to create an association when they are not any handicaps and why do they even have to work on handicrafts or etc. as you said. They are as normal as us without this harmone disorder. My only request to the public is let them live how they want to. Accepted that its not good paying them when they beg, but if they want to work with us on their capability let them do so.
Might be, there are only single or double digit people who are educated amongst them. Definitely they would opt to live a normal life if we allow those few people to work in normal workstation and get inspired. My question is still on, "Will any of us let them work in our Offices?". They are not a shame by any chance.
