THE UNTOLD SAGA....

I’ve always been happy posting here, going by the comments I got for my first couple of blogs. All good feedbacks, indeed. My uncle told, my presentation is good and keeps the interest intact till the end. Thanks for it. He also mentioned people might make fun of my carelessness. I agree, but the facts cannot be ignored, and I'm going to respect his suggestion of writing serious things too.

If you guys enjoyed my earlier posts for the funny side of it, this time I've got something serious for you. I want to share an incident which was neither funny nor something you want to go through. I’ve hardly discussed this with any of my best friends for that matter.

I’ve my own bike DIO since December and from the day I got it, I've never taken a bus or even walked to the nearby shop. I guess this happens with most of the lots who get addicted to their vehicle. Ever since my evenings have been more colorful, as I can get home early and after refreshing myself I can even go for a ride on the nearby streets, with my favorite music plugged firmly in my ears.

On one such evening after a ride, while I was parking my DIO, I got a call from one of my friends whom I’d not spoken for months. So instead of getting inside home, I went on a stroll to the street next to mine. I was so indulged in the discussions that I didn’t even notice a boy rushing next to me on a bike at the fastest possible speed. I kept my concentration still on talkings as for me it was my friend who was important.

Just a minute later the same guy, took a U turn, rushed back and hit me badly and vanished in thin air. Though I screamed and scolded him, the next moment I was on ground in pain. Thanks to the aunty who took me inside her home so I could relax for sometime before going back home.

This incident happened on a street which is adjacent to the street where I live. I still can’t come out of the fear of going alone on streets. These incidences make girls so weak and make us realize, however strong you are financially or professionally, ultimately you are a girl and you have to be careful in each step.

Till date I’ve not shared this with my mom, with the fear of being objected whenever I want to go out. And, as I said earlier, hardly any of my closest friends know this. Girls and boys, do educate yourself on how well these situations can be avoided. As for me, without any mistake of mine, I had to endure this and I still feel the chilling fear, but for you who read this, it is a QUESTION MARK ?

Some pointers on how this could have been avoided. (An addition on suggestion by my friend Dinakkar)

1. The guy wouldn’t have dared to do what he did, if I were in a group.
2. He wouldn’t have done this if the street was crowded or even if few people were scattered here and there.
3. If I did not get deep into the conversation and was conscious of what is happening, I could have stepped away and avoided it myself.

मुश्किलात होते तो सामना कर लेते
डूबते वक़्त दरिया पार भी कर लेते,
पर इन इत्तेफाकों का क्या, जिसका
इत्तेफाक से भी इक्तिला नहीं होता????
Mushkilaat hote to saamna kar lete,
Doobte vaqt dariya paar bhi kar lete,
Par in ittefakon ka kya, Jiska
ittefak se bhi iktela nahi hota??

Nalmeya gelatiyarige….
Hoovina haadiyendu nee Mellane nededeye, gelati
Nee nadedaddu aagasada kelagendu mareteye
Haddugaliveyemba vaastavateya dooravirise
Intaha avaantaragala nee baraselede…

  1. These kind of hit and run cases aren't limited to any particular gender. It could be anyone in your place. I have seen so many lady/woman drivers who are even more harsh. They are so unpredictable, one has to be really careful when it comes a lady driver next to your vehicle. Just let things pass by than to worry about such things.

By the way... i like your poetry in kannada :)

  2. No one can just justify as it is rash driving. It is an out come of male attitude. Many young guys don't digest the women are being equal to them. Women have to fight it back with difference. No one can shut the efficient mind in the dark.

Nice presentation. Good. keep it up.

  3. @Mohan : It was not a hit and run case, he thrashed me with his hands n rushed. I am not worried, but wanted to tell others to be careful wherever they are through this post.
I'm glad that you liked my poetry. I'm emphasizing on adding one in every post.

  8. Kavi – I really appreciate your social responsibility and the conscious effort to spread the message. It indeed is a very strong message that you’re trying to convey through this medium. Although I’m sad and angry that you fell victim, it’s a nice gesture from you to make an attempt to educate your friends, relatives and known people about it, so that it doesn’t happen to anyone else. Taking a practical stand point, its neither worthwhile nor rewarding to go hunt for that jerk and bring him under law or punish him ourselves, you have taken the next best approach of advising people about how such things can be avoided. Hatsoff to you for your courage in sharing this incident with others, thereby telling them that it could happen to anyone and the best thing to do, is to avoid it than repent it.

This incident reminds me of something that happened in Chennai some 12-13 years back. An innocent student of Ethiraj college (a very famous college a la Mt. Carmel in Blore) was killed when some real ass holes on the street, tried to eve tease her. The poor girl was thrown down on the street at full force as they tried to snatch her dupatta and she got killed due to the impact of falling on the ground, bleeding etc. I was at that time in college myself and even at that time, this incident left a bad taste and bitter memories.

Its no use blaming those monsters. Don’t take me wrong here. I am not supporting them or digressing from the topic. They are evils - no doubt!!! When you know that evil can be anywhere and attack you from anywhere, its better if you are aware of it and take necessary precautions to avoid being victimized. I had given you some pointers offline. May be you can add more from a girls’ perspective, even ask your other friends about what precautions they take while going out on streets, walking in the night etc. Compile everything and post in your next blog. That should serve as a real eye opener for everyone. Not just the girls who can benefit from the tips
